Abstract

This study looks at idiomatic expressions in dialogues of the Brooklyn Nine-Nine Movie Series. I want to find idioms, classify them into pure, semi, and literal idioms, and explain their meaning in context. The research uses qualitative observation by watching episodes carefully and writing down idiomatic expressions. The study shows that idioms are used to convey humour, feelings, and natural conversation. Understanding context is very important because the meaning is often different from the literal meaning. This study shows the role of idioms in making spoken English more natural and expressive, and provides help for English learners and a guide for future research about idioms in TV shows.
