Publication Priority

JTST prioritizes original research articles. Original research articles should constitute the majority of scholarly content published in each issue.

Manuscript Type Recommended Length Peer Reviewed Submission Status
Original Research Article 3,500–8,000 words Yes Open submission
Review Article 5,000–10,000 words Yes Open or invited
Case Study or Application Article 3,000–7,000 words Yes Open submission
Short Communication 2,000–4,000 words Yes Open submission
Technical or Methodological Note 2,500–5,000 words Yes Open submission
Editorial As determined by the editor Editorial assessment By invitation
Correction or Retraction Notice As required Editorial assessment Issued by the journal

The recommended word count excludes the abstract, references, tables, figures, acknowledgments, and supplementary materials. The editor may allow a different length when justified by the nature of the study.

1. Original Research Article

An Original Research Article presents the results of original empirical, experimental, computational, design-based, or applied research that has not previously been published.

The manuscript should demonstrate:

  • A clearly defined research problem;
  • An appropriate review of relevant previous research;
  • A clear research gap and statement of novelty;
  • Well-defined objectives or research questions;
  • A valid, transparent, and reproducible method;
  • Clearly presented results;
  • A critical discussion comparing the findings with previous studies;
  • Scientific or practical contributions; and
  • Conclusions that directly answer the research objectives.
Recommended structure: Title; Abstract; Keywords; Introduction; Research Method; Results and Discussion; Conclusion; Acknowledgments, if applicable; Declarations; and References.

2. Review Article

A Review Article provides a critical, comprehensive, and structured synthesis of existing research on a significant topic relevant to the journal's focus and scope.

JTST may consider:

  • Systematic literature reviews;
  • Scoping reviews;
  • Meta-analyses;
  • Bibliometric reviews; and
  • Critical narrative reviews with a clear analytical contribution.

The manuscript must explain the literature search, selection, inclusion, exclusion, and analysis procedures. A review article should not merely summarize previous studies but must identify patterns, limitations, research gaps, theoretical implications, and future research directions.

3. Case Study or Application Article

A Case Study or Application Article reports the implementation and evaluation of a technology, embedded system, information system, intelligent system, Internet of Things solution, computational method, or other relevant innovation in a specific real-world context.

The article should include:

  • A clear description of the problem and application context;
  • A sufficient theoretical or technological foundation;
  • An explanation of system design or implementation;
  • A transparent testing and evaluation procedure;
  • Measurable results;
  • Comparison with relevant methods or previous implementations;
  • Limitations and lessons learned; and
  • A contribution that can be transferred or applied beyond a single local setting.
A manuscript that only describes the creation of a product, application, or system without adequate scientific evaluation, analysis, and contribution will not be considered sufficient for publication.

4. Short Communication

A Short Communication presents concise but significant original findings that are suitable for rapid scholarly communication and do not require a full-length research article.

A Short Communication must:

  • Present original and complete findings;
  • Have a clearly stated contribution;
  • Use an appropriate and adequately explained method;
  • Provide sufficient evidence to support the conclusions; and
  • Follow the same research and publication ethics requirements as a full research article.

Preliminary findings that are unsupported, incomplete, or merely descriptive are not suitable for this manuscript type.

5. Technical or Methodological Note

A Technical or Methodological Note describes a novel or substantially improved method, algorithm, instrument, hardware design, software component, dataset, testing procedure, or technical process.

The manuscript should provide:

  • A clear explanation of the technical or methodological problem;
  • Evidence of novelty or meaningful improvement;
  • Sufficient implementation details;
  • Validation, testing, or comparison with existing approaches;
  • Information supporting reproducibility; and
  • Discussion of potential uses, limitations, and implications.

6. Editorial

An Editorial is written or formally invited by the Editor-in-Chief. It may discuss developments in the journal, emerging research directions, publication ethics, important issues within the journal's field, or the contents of a particular issue.

Editorials are assessed by the Editor-in-Chief or another independent editor. An editor who authors an editorial must not independently approve their own manuscript.

7. Correction, Expression of Concern, and Retraction Notice

Corrections, expressions of concern, and retraction notices are published to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.

These notices are issued and approved by the editorial office in accordance with the journal's Corrections and Retractions Policy. Each notice must clearly identify and link to the affected article, explain the editorial action, and remain permanently accessible.

8. General Requirements for Scholarly Manuscripts

Regardless of manuscript type, scholarly submissions must:

  • Be original and not previously published;
  • Not be under consideration by another journal;
  • Fall within the focus and scope of JTST;
  • Follow the current JTST manuscript template;
  • Use clear academic language in Indonesian or English;
  • Provide an informative title, abstract, and keywords;
  • Clearly state the research gap, novelty, objectives, and contribution;
  • Use appropriate, relevant, and recent scholarly references;
  • Cite data, software, images, instruments, and other external materials appropriately;
  • Disclose all authors and their contributions;
  • Provide funding and conflict of interest statements;
  • Provide a data availability statement where relevant;
  • Disclose the use of generative artificial intelligence, where applicable; and
  • Provide ethical approval and informed consent information for research involving humans, animals, or sensitive data, where required.

9. Manuscripts Not Considered for Publication

JTST will not consider manuscripts that:

  • Fall outside the journal's focus and scope;
  • Contain plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or manipulated data;
  • Have been published or submitted elsewhere without proper disclosure;
  • Only reproduce well-known methods without meaningful evaluation or contribution;
  • Only describe a product or application without scientific analysis;
  • Lack a clear research problem, method, results, or contribution;
  • Use unreliable, unverifiable, or inadequately documented data;
  • Do not comply with research ethics requirements; or
  • Fail to meet the journal's minimum editorial and scientific standards.

10. Editorial Classification

Authors are responsible for selecting an appropriate manuscript type during submission. However, the editorial team may recommend or require a change in manuscript classification when the submitted content is more appropriate for another category.

The selected manuscript type does not influence the objectivity of editorial screening, peer review, or the final publication decision.

11. Editorial Contact

Authors who are uncertain about the appropriate manuscript type may contact the JTST editorial office before submission.
