Abstrak

The Type 3 Nutrition Service Unit (SPPG) building requires a spacious, column-free workspace to support complex nutrition distribution activities. However, the existing design of this 20×20 m building still uses a conventional 2D roof truss system, which has limitations in terms of space capacity and structural stability. This study aims to redesign the conventional 2D roof truss into a 3D space truss based on Circular Hollow Section (CHS) steel pipes to compare the structural performance of the existing roof and the redesigned structure based on the requirements of SNI 1729:2020. The method used was a quantitative descriptive-comparative approach through structural modeling and analysis using ETABS software based on load parameters in accordance with SNI 1727:2020 and SNI 1726:2019. The results of the study indicate that the existing roof structure does not yet meet safety requirements due to the inability of compression members to resist buckling, whereas the proposed 3D space truss model meets the strength and axial force serviceability requirements in accordance with the standards. The proposed design meets the structural strength and stability requirements, provides a more even force distribution, reduces the stress ratio, and offers a wider column-free space to support the building’s functions. However, the use of a 3D space truss roof system with CHS profiles results in a greater self-weight of the structure compared to the existing roof structure. Thus, based on the results of the structural performance evaluation, a 3D space truss system using CHS steel pipes can be considered as an alternative for the design of wide-span roof structures.
